Insurance protects your family from financial shocks. A simple checklist helps make sure the important risks are covered — without buying policies you do not need.
1. Term life insurance
Every earning member with dependants should consider term life cover. The cover should be enough to replace income for the family’s needs and repay loans. Term plans offer high cover at low premiums.
2. Health insurance
- A family floater or individual policies with adequate cover
- Check room rent limits, co-payment, waiting periods and network hospitals
- Consider a top-up or super top-up for higher cover at lower cost
- Separate cover for senior parents if needed

3. Motor insurance
Third-party cover is mandatory by law. A comprehensive policy also covers damage to your own vehicle. Check add-ons such as zero depreciation carefully.
4. Home insurance
Covers the structure and contents against fire, theft and natural disasters at a relatively low cost.
5. Nominees and documents
Update nominees in every policy, keep policy documents accessible and tell your family where they are.
6. Review every year
Review cover after marriage, children, a new home or a salary change.
